Hussein Kahin Educational Foundation-Lighting the PathThrough Education
The Hussein Kahin Educational Foundation (HKEF) was established to honour the memory of the late Prof. Hussein Kahin and carry forward his lifelong commitment to education. Based in Burao, Togdheer Region, Somaliland, the foundation seeks to help learners, support educators and strengthen opportunities for community learning.
Our Mission
To expand access to meaningful education and practical skills, with particular attention to people whose opportunities are limited by financial hardship or inadequate learning resources.
Our Priorities
The foundation’s planned areas of work include supporting disadvantaged students, strengthening English and academic writing skills, encouraging reading, developing teachers’ skills and building educational partnerships. These priorities will guide programmes as resources and partnerships become available.
A Legacy of Learning
Prof. Hussein Kahin’s dedication to teaching continues to inspire this work. The foundation aims to honour that legacy through practical educational opportunities that help students gain knowledge, confidence and the skills to contribute to their communities.
Partnerships and Participation
We welcome enquiries from educators, schools, universities, community organisations and potential supporters who share our commitment to education in Somaliland.
This section of the Horn of Africa Strategic Review website will carry the foundation’s news, programme announcements, partnership updates and opportunities to participate.
